Grapes Riesling (100%)
Soil This estate-bottled Riesling is vinified from a special selection of grapes grown in the vineyards of the famous Sonnenuhr vineyard of Wehlen. These vineyards are extremely steep and can show up to 60% steepness. Here the family cultivate extra old vines by ungrafted original root stocks being up to 60 and more years old. This makes these wines very special and gives a unique taste. The Wehlener Sonnenuhr is a worldwide known very prestigious vineyard. Sonnenuhr means sundial and this one was built by one of the ancestors (Jodocus Prüm) of the family in 1842. The vineyard has a grey slate soil formed in the devonian time that gives the name “Devon”.
Winemaking Grapes are hand picked in mid-October and destemed before a 12 hours maceration on the skins starts. The juice is wild yeast fermented for at least eight weeks in stainless steel tanks. After all of this the wine has been kept on the lees in old oak wood barrels until end of September the following year.
Aging 12 months in old oak barrels.
Capacity 750 ml
Volume Alcohol by Volume: 12,5%
