Juca Loureiro 2023

13,50 €

The nose is aromatically expressive, with floral notes (white rose) as well as orange blossoms and leaves and a slight hint of laurel, in keeping with the typical character of the grape variety. In the mouth, we find the same clear notes of flowers and orange leaves. Vibrant and very fresh acidity, well balanced with a certain unctuousness and a long finish. Elegant and balanced.

Constantino Ramos, a native of Vouzela in the Dão region, graduated in Pharmacy at the University of Coimbra, worked in this area but ended up dropping out to pursue a master's degree in oenology at the University of Trás-Os-Montes and Alto Douro embracing his true passion. Later he met his mentor, with whom he works until today, the renowned winemaker, Anselmo Mendes.

Constantino Ramos' project begins in Monção (Vinho Verde region) where he found old vines in Riba de Mouro and Tangil in the top of the municipality of Monção. With them, he produced his Zafirah. He wanted to make an elegant, graceful, easy-to-drink wine that would convey freshness and refer to the old wines of the region, the so-called “Vinhos de Viana”. This red wine with low oenological intervention is intended to honour the famous Monção red wines that were exported to England and Flanders in the 14th and 15th centuries. Artisanal wine, “carried on your lap” throughout its process, without haste or trampling respecting your own will with minimal, surgical and oenological interventions that respect the character of the wine.

He didn´t resist producing an Alvarinho that reflects his interpretation of the grape variety. Using a small vineyard near the place where he explores the reds, he selected a vineyard planted about 250 meters away and produced his Afluente wine, seeking to extract more tension, austerity and vibrant acidity.

Juca, his latest project, is a tribute to the people and customs of Riba de Mouro, a place where wine was made in medieval times. This forgotten and deserted region and the vineyards that Constantino “found” are breathtakingly beautiful.
