The idea for Encostas de Sonim was promoted by Mr Fernando Pessoa, who for many years had dedicated himself to growing vines, just as he had learnt from his father and grandfather - let's say it was a family tradition. However, it was wine lovers, winemakers and visitors who encouraged the creation of their own brand. Since the Pessoa family wine was already known and recognised for its quality throughout the region. It was then that the idea was consolidated and, with all their dedication, the Encostas de Sonim wine was born.
The name of the wine is a tribute to their hometown of Sonim, an original and somewhat strange Germanic name (the organising force that started the attempts at Christianity developed during the time of the Suevi and Visigoths), named in honour of the owner of this town in ancient times, by the name of Sonnini.
