Casa das Gaeiras, located in the Óbidos wine region, is one of the most historic estates in the Lisbon wine area, with origins dating back to the 18th century. Founded around 1790 by António Gomes da Silva Pinheiro, the estate was closely linked to the social and political context of its time, even serving as a military hospital during the Napoleonic invasions.

Over the centuries, Casa das Gaeiras established itself as a benchmark for quality wines, gaining recognition as early as the late 19th century, with wines appreciated both domestically and internationally.

In the 20th century, the estate became part of the Pinto Basto family, who helped elevate its reputation through a more structured and internationally influenced approach to winemaking.

Following a quieter period, the estate entered a new phase of revitalisation in the 21st century with the involvement of Grupo Parras in 2010. This marked a significant transformation, including vineyard modernisation and a renewed focus on traditional local grape varieties, particularly Vital — now a defining element of the estate’s identity.

Today, with around 20 hectares of vineyards, Casa das Gaeiras is often described as a “small château” in the Óbidos region, producing limited quantities of wines that reflect the Atlantic-influenced terroir — fresh, mineral and elegant — while preserving a legacy spanning more than 300 years.
