No document allows us to trace the history of Casa das Carrafouchas, located in Santo Antão do Tojal, in Lisbon's wine region. Built at the beginning of the 18th century, the only thing about its history is the stay of Jean-Andoche Junot. On April 8, 1879, the property was bought from the Marquis of Valada by Joaquim Franco Cannas. It has remained in his family since then. It currently belongs to D. Maria Veneranda.
Inspired by the traditional way of making wine, Quinta das Carrafouchas results from the passionate work of its people, for the land and for the art of treating the wine and the vine. Licensed in 1932, it was only in 1954 that it started to produce white wine, which was sold in bulk. After the implantation of new varieties of vines and the remodelling of the vine training system, it is currently the closest private vineyard to the centre of Lisbon. They have opted for the Portuguese grape varieties: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Arinto which are, when necessary, irrigated with the purest mine water. To optimise quality, the harvest is carried out manually and placed in 20 kg boxes to ensure correct transportation to the winery. This wine is born from a concept of maximum quality and that is why it will only see the light of day in the years when all factors allow it.
