Somnium Granito White 2019

28,90 €

Very fresh aroma with notes of flint and phosphorus, with light smoky touches from the barrel ageing. Citrus fruit fills the mouth, in a very lemony profile, with tea leaves and dried grass. Light but creamy, very crisp and taut.

The word "SOMNIUM", means" to dream" in Latin. And it was the dream Joana Pinhão and Rui Freire shared since the university days, which led them to make great wine after they followed their professional path for 10 years.

In 2000 Joana Pinhão started her degree in Agronomic Engineering. In 2006, he internship at Casa Cadaval and, in the following year, he joined the oenology team at Quinta Vale Dona Maria/Van Zeller & Co., where he remained until 2019, having assumed responsibility for the DOC Douro Port wines.

Somnium is a project that Joana share with his great friend, colleague and oenologist Rui Freire, who worked at Herdade da Malhadinha Nova and more recently at Casca Wines Project. A project thought for more than 10 years, when they were still at University, in Instituto Superior de Agronomia, where they always share the DREAM (SOMNIUM) of making a wine together.

The SOMNIUM Douro White is born of this desire to do wine in the Douro Valley Region, a different wine, grapes from vineyards in altitude, near Porrais, in which the base wine is Rabigato and Códega of Larinho, vines with about 70 years. This wine is very gastronomic, with great depth and acidity, with huge potential to age in the bottle.

Later, they produced SOMNIUM Douro Red, a wine with an incredible structure, balanced by very sharp and very elegant acidity.
