Com um passado histórico vitivinícola que remonta à fundação da nacionalidade portuguesa, é a região mais montanhosa de Portugal continental, compreendendo algumas das serras mais altas. Encontra-se dividida em três sub-regiões, Castelo Rodrigo, Pinhel e Cova da Beira.

The wines are very influenced by the mountain and the altitude. The whites have great aromatic exuberance and a lot of freshness. The reds have complex aromas of wild fruits and spices, and a marked freshness.

Climate: Is seriously continental, hot and dry in summer, but with very cold, long winters.

Soil: Mostly granitic with small shale patches

Curiosities

Roman traces
Vine growing in this region dates back to the Roman era. One can still find several rock tanks that were used to produce wine.
