Syrah

It is a caste originating in France but produced all over the world. It is cultivated from France to Australia (where it is the main grape), the United States (Washington State and California), besides Italy (planted in small scale all over the country to produce some good blends), Spain (used in projects in Rioja for example), Portugal, Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon, Uruguay, Brazil (restricted to some producers and in the northeast) In Portugal it found its home in the region of Alentejo and is the most successful foreign grape in terms of climatic adaptation. The wines have an intense colour with complex aromas and rich tannins. The most present flavours are blueberry, blackberry, plum, floral notes of violets, chocolate, tobacco and black pepper. Depending on the region, there are some differences. In warmer climates, they are more fruity. In colder climates, they have spicier notes of olive and green pepper. The natural acidity that the grape can preserve and the quality of its tannins allow an excellent evolution in the bottle.
