Zinfandel

It is a popular and widely grown grape variety in the United States of America. Zinfandel origin was unknown until a DNA test revealed this mystery. It is identical to the Italian Primitivo variety and the Croatian Tribidrag variety. During the 15th century, Zinfandel was trading in Venice at very high prices. It arrived in Boston in 1829 from Vienna and was first planted in North America in the Napa Valley in 1857. The wine was so well received that becoming one of the most widely grown grapes in America. Zinfandel produces a rich red wine, but they only use 15% of Zinfandel for this style. Most are to make a full-bodied rosé wine called White Zinfandel.
