Tinta Carvalha

Tinta Carvalha is an autochthonous Portuguese grape variety that originated in the region of Trás-Os-Montes. The regions where it is most planted are Minho, Trás-os-Montes and Estremadura. It produces a light rosy to ruby wine, smooth and pleasant in the mouth, with a simply aroma and a possibly slightly harsh flavour, without persistence. It has low ageing potential but is of interest as a blending variety. It does not adapt well to other regions, such as Beira Interior or the marginal areas of Trás-os-Montes, producing less favourable wines. It is of little interest outside its region of origin and in more difficult years of production.
