Marselan

Marselan is a cross between two famous red grape varieties, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon. It was created in 1961 by the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) at its Domaine de Vassal station in Marselan, which gave it its name. It is one of seven grape varieties permitted in the Bordeaux and Bordeaux Superieur appellations in a minority proportion and was accepted to combat the effects of climate change on the vineyards and wines of the famous French region. Marselan is also in the grape varieties list in several countries: Bulgaria, Croatia, Italy, Portugal and Spain. Marselan produces intense colour wines, complex and aromatic, good acidity, soft and harmonious tannins and ageing potential. The aromas are of blackcurrant and raspberry with spicy notes of spices.
