Caladoc

This variety is the result of a cross between the Malbec and Grenache varieties. Was created by Paul Truel at the Institut National del la Recherche Agronomique in 1958. It is widespread in France in the Provence and Languedoc regions but, it is not a grape variety authorised for AOC wines. Besides France, most planting areas are in the Mendoza region in Argentina and the Lisboa and Tejo regions in Portugal. Caladoc wines have high tannins and a dark colour. We can find some Caladoc wines, especially in some fruity rosés, although there are not many. The wines produced from this grape variety are very seductive. They have an intense colour, are full-bodied and tannic but without any bitterness. The aromas are of spices, raspberry, ripe fruit and floral notes. Caladoc grape variety wines have good ageing potential and are excellent for producing fruity and balanced rosés. When used with other varieties, they develop aromas similar to balsamic, eucalyptus and wild berries. They are very versatile in terms of harmonisation and accompany a wide variety of dishes.
