Amaral

It is one of the oldest grape varieties in the Vinho Verde region. It is at the genesis of many other varieties of that region by natural crossbreeding. Grown in the sub-region of Paiva, it appears throughout the entire Vinho Verde region under the synonyms of Azal Tinto in the more central and northern counties, Cainho Bravo or Cainho Miúdo in Monção, Cainzinho in Arcos de Valdevez and by Sousão Galego in the Basto area. It produces wines of intense ruby red colour, with an aroma that does not highlight the grape variety, full-bodied and with a slightly acidic taste. It is used in blended red wines, contributing to their preservation.
