Malvasia Rei

It is supposed that Malvasia Rei was introduced to the area where it is most highly concentrated, Jerez de la Frontera in Spain, by seafaring Greek merchants. In Spain is Known as Palomino Fino. The grape variety, in fact, still exists in Cyprus. It was first brought to Portugal in the previous millennium because of its unusually high yield. If fermented at low temperatures, this variety may lose colour but produces extraordinarily aromatic wines. Sherry type wines develop clearer, more delicate tones with hints of hazelnut, which have a rich, full-bodied, almost oily effect.
