Viticulture and winemaking have centuries-old traditions in the Bairrada region, including the parish of Cordinhã, in the municipality of Cantanhede.
Idálio Estanislau Wines aims to carry on the legacy of its ancestors, following a direct genealogical line, by practising viticulture that respects the ecosystem and tradition. This approach honours local customs, values, and people, producing authentic wines from the clay-limestone soils of the exceptional terroir of Bairrada.
The vineyards are smallholdings, a characteristic of the Cantanhede municipality, where the local community has always cultivated the land with commitment, dedication, and wisdom, passing this heritage on to future generations. The people are deeply connected to their belongings and traditions. The mystery surrounding vineyard work, the cultivation of the land, and the time-honoured knowledge of winemaking, combined with the distinctive character of its people—renowned for their hospitality and friendliness—make Cordinhã a special place.
"Pedra Só" is the name of a location where a rocky outcrop emerges from the soil. Also known as Sítio dos Penedos or Vale das Vinhas, it was once home to vineyards owned by the clergy of the Monastery of Santa Cruz, when the land was easier to cultivate. With the advent of machinery, previous generations began planting vineyards in clay-limestone terrain with a rocky subsoil, which had previously been used for grazing. To preserve the history of vine cultivation in this territory, the PEDRA SÓ wines were created and registered.
The PEDRA SÓ wines by Idálio Estanislau Wines are crafted from vineyards located within the renowned "magic triangle": Cordinhã, Ourentã, and Cantanhede. This area represents the pinnacle of Bairrada's viticultural potential, characterised by gentle, sunlit hills and clay-limestone soils with excellent southern exposure.
Situated about 25 km from the Atlantic Ocean, the region benefits during July and August from morning mists that contribute to better grape ripening and balanced acidity.
