Caios is a tribute to the great-great-grandfather of the producer, Caio de Loureiro, who marked the history and tradition of viticulture and winemaking in the family. At the end of the 19th century, he settled in Santiago do Cacém, on the Costa Alentejana. Recognizing the region's potential and qualities, it pioneered agro-industrial activity by planting the first vines in Herdade do Cebolal. His son, Francisco Caio, the producer's great-grandfather, had two very amusing words: "Life is too short to drink bad wine" and "Good wine is Cebolal wine." The earth, the sun and the rain, the grape and the man together create a wine that complements life. Caios represents the magic and mysteries of the aromas and flavors contained in the Herdade do Cebolal wines.
This wine was produced with Alicante Bouschet, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Touriga Nacional, aged 24 months in French oak barrels, is sophisticated and with personality. Herdade do Cebolal is located on the Costa Alentejana, at the southern end of the demarcated region of the Peninsula Setúbal, near the village of Vale das Éguas, about 17 kilometers from Santiago do Cacém and 10 kilometers from the Atlantic.
The estate has been in the family for over a century. The vineyards of the estate are situated on the Costa Alentejana, ten kilometers from the sea.
The mild climate with sunny days and cool nights influences the maturation of the grapes and the soil rich in shale and limestone gives it unique characteristics. Work on the vineyard has been very careful with minimal irrigation, looking for quality grapes. The defoliation in the area of the bunches for a better sun exposure south / west guarantees a suitable maturation.
