For over 50 years, the Machado family has been devoted to wine-growing activity. The wines of Quinta dos Penegrais are the result of the commitment of several generations. In 1998 they decided to convert an extensive area of orchards to vineyards. This was the beginning of a new mark for Quinta dos Penegrais in the wine sector. In 2004 António Carvalho Machado produced the first regional wine with the brand Quinta dos Penegrais. Nowadays, they have about 38 hectares. The main grape varieties are Syrah, Alicant Bouschet, Castelão, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Caladoc (red wines) and Moscatel, Arinto, Fernão Pires and Gewürztraminer.
