Quinta das Senhoras is located in Marialva, one of the twelve Historical Villages of Portugal, bordering the Coa lands, former border of Leon and Castile until 1297, during the reign of D. Dinis, a territory that has always been part of Lusitania and afterwards of the Portucalense County, on a plateau cut by the old Roman road, which was the route of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, from Mérida, Conimbriga and Salamanca.
Quinta das Senhoras begins by being a tribute to D. Isabel de Aragão, that passed there on the 23 of June of 1282 on the eve of her marriage with King D.Dinis, on the way to Trancoso, where it was celebrated.
The Quinta das Senhoras has been in existence since the 19th century, thanks to the tenacity of a ladies' dynasty, the first, Mrs. Carolina, a Brazilian emigrant who bought and worked the lands that still constitute it, where a genuine wine of excellence is produced, having also contributed to the birth of the vineyard and wine production in the State of Paraná, Brazil, around a city that adopted the name of Marialva.
Located in the Douro river basin, in a granite-schist transition zone, on sloping terrain, slightly ascending, at an altitude of about 500 meters, with sun exposure all day, with a warm and dry in summer, and cold and dry in winter.
Throughout its manufacturing process, the vineyard is produced in a biological way, without any kind of addition of products or phyto-pharmaceutical substances, with the grapes being harvested in September with spontaneous fermentation and manual wrapping , in traditional stone mills, for seven days, followed by manual prey with a wooden structure.
The red wines come from the Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Aragonês and Sousão varieties, with ruby color, fragrant aroma, elegant, very intense, balanced in the mouth and with a long finish.
The white wines have a pleasant texture, provided by the Viosinho grape variety, combined with the delicate aromas of the Gouveio grape variety, which give rise to a wine with a good structure, of great balance, where excellent sensations of minerality and freshness are discovered, with an elegant finish.
Quinta das Senhoras continues to be a family business, old in its three-hundred-year history, young in the youth of its three current heirs, the youngest of whom wanted to honor the founder's name and his grandmother, rich in his accumulated experience of five generations.
