This wine has an intense and expressive nose offering up youthful aromas dominated by fresh fruit (raspberry and cherry), delicately spiced and enhanced by an oaky note. Ample, fresh and fruity on the palate combining ripe red fruit with blackcurrant, raspberry and jammy sour cherry notes. Well-balanced structure revealing spicy flavours (liquorice, pepper). Soft resin notes and a touch of oak give the wine beautiful complexity. Fine tannins ensure a smooth, very harmonious texture in the finish.

This story starts with a Pope
The people of the region like to think it was the wine that drew the papacy to Avignon in the fourteenth century. Our papal stewards restored our vineyards and viticulture practises, creating a wine replete with the character of the land and opening our borders to Europe. So beguiling was our wine that when the Pope returned to Rome, his cardinals dug in their heels: “How can you live a happy life without the nectar of the gods?”
Every story needs a name
Ours was gleaned when Pope John XXII built his summerhouse outside Avignon. “A new castle for the Pope” reverberated across the land, and today we still call the region, châteaux and wine Châteauneuf-du-Pape!
A land where lavender grows
Wars were not able to permeate this terroir but the renowned character of this wine was threatened by adulteration and fraud. In twentieth century Baron Pierre Le Roy establish the appellation for Châteauneuf-du-Pape. He drew a figurative line around the vineyards, excluding the arid and infertile lands where only thyme and lavender grew. His rules became the prototype for the entire Appellation Controlee system.
Into the Sheriff’s Wood
In the heart of the Baron’s boundaries sits the Sheriff’s Wood: Les Bois Sénéchaux.
This plot is crucial to the success of one of the oldest vineyards in this region, so much so that it lends the property its name: Domaine des Sénéchaux.
With a history dating back to the fourteenth century the property can be found in its current landscape since the 1950s. This terrain is fundamental for the success of one of the oldest vineyards in this region, so much so that it gives it its name: Domaine des Sénéchaux.
With a history dating back to the 14th century, the property has been in its current landscape since the 1950s, managed by the Raynaud family who handed over to Pascal Roux who started a recovery.
Today’s administration
With prosperous vineyards in Bordeaux, the Cazes family, who succeeded Pascal Roux, came to Domaine des Sénéchaux with extensive experience and the desire to make a wine full of the characteristics of the region. With Bernard Tranchecoste, who are entrusted with the daily management of the land, they restored the vineyards to their former glory and modernized the farm. Since 2018, a new partnership with the Pradon family that has become co-owner, has injected a new dynamic into the property.
