In a deep corner of the Alentejo, between Estremoz and Borba, the most surprising wines are born on the Dolomite heels of the limestone massif of the Ossa Morena area! They naturally bring together the expression of ripe fruit, complexity and freshness.

The History
The Mourinha family's connection to wine and vines is an old one. As far as we know, João Mourinha's paternal grandfather was an eminent businessman at the beginning of the 20th Century. Around 1920, he acquired a vineyard in Borba (Alentejo) called St. Miguel, next to a hermitage, which shared its name with the property.

It was from the grapes of the St. Miguel vineyard that João de Deus Mourinha produced wine for the first time in a typical wine cellar with clay jars. Flowing from clay amphorae into the wine cellar, where there was also a tavern, their wines became famous as delicious.

As an excellent businessman, João de Deus Mourinha did good business and acquired Quinta Figueira Coriga and Palácio dos Mellos, among others.

And such was his devotion and gratitude to the grounds of St. Miguel that João de Deus Mourinha expressed a single wish to his heirs - to rebuild the ruined chapel of St. Miguel.

Quim Bento, the Planter
An illegitimate son of João de Deus Mourinho inherited the property Quinta Figueira Coriga at the age of 20. An intelligent and sensitive man, he restructured the property and planted vines on such stony land that it seemed impossible to do so.

Currently, the brothers Mateus and Maria Mourinho manage the property.

The Vineyard
New plantations were made in the plots of Aragonês, Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouchet and Syrah grape varieties, using clones suitable for the location. The use of herbicides has given way to a natural meadow. The complexity of plants balances the fertility of the soil.

In summer, dry and protective vegetation covers the vineyard. We can enjoy a leisurely space free of pesticides and dust, while the degradation of organic matter replaces the nutrients.

Dry Sweet
Un-oaked Oak aged
Light Full-bodied
