On the nose, it is subtle, with a focus on the minerality and the Atlantic influence characteristic of the region. Soil The terroir of Biscoitos is characterised by volcanic soils rich in minerals and the strong influence of the sea. The vineyards are cultivated in elevated areas, with ideal exposure to the Atlantic breeze and the moderate sun of Terceira Island, which imparts a unique minerality and an Atlantic character to the wines – a signature of the wines from this region.
Winemaking The grapes are hand-picked and selected directly in the vineyard, transported in small boxes, with only those bunches in perfect condition of ripeness and health being harvested. A subsequent selection of the bunches is carried out on a sorting table. The grapes are fully de-stemmed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks (80%) and used French oak barrels (20%). The malolactic fermentation occurred in the barrel.
Minimal intervention, with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts.
Aging 8 months on the fine lees in stainless steel (80%) and oak barrels (20%) with light bâtonnage.

The Materramenta project is based on family foundations, combining a love for wine, the land, and the people of the Biscoitos region, on Terceira Island in the Azores. With the firm conviction that it is their responsibility to play an active role in the promotion of Biscoitos, the project's founders chose to develop a strategy that prioritizes wine quality, placing economic considerations in the background.

They aim to honor Materramenta, the first owner of the Biscoitos land and predecessor of Pedro Anes do Canto, seeking to ensure that human intervention enhances the natural flavors of this terroir—whose landscape was shaped by skilled hands, aware that each stone has its specific place and that nothing can be placed at random.

The secret of the project's success lies in a perfect harmony between centuries of accumulated experience, dating back to the 16th century, and the most recent and demanding oenological knowledge. The black stones, formed from magma, warm the vines and protect them from the lash of salt-laden winds from the surrounding sea—a sea that defines the region—imparting unique characteristics to this nectar. It is their intention that tasting this wine instantly transports the drinker to the curraletas of the Biscoitos vineyards and to the hard, entirely manual labor that takes place there throughout the year.
