Herdade da Lisboa

Since 2011, this has been the place of the Cardoso Family in Vidigueira, in the Baixo Alentejo sub-region. A place where the modernity of the winery intersects with the tradition of the Alentejo cellars and where the diversity of viticulture is added to the permanent evolution of oenology.

A place where the work and investment carried out by the Cardoso Family is allowing the recovery of iconic wines and the development of new wines and sparkling wines that express the full strength of the region.

Terroir
It is in the privileged characteristics of the territory that the full potential of the region that Herdade a Lisboa integrates begins to take shape.

The Serra do Mendro, located to the north of Vidigueira, creates a natural barrier that favors the retention of fresh winds from the Atlantic Ocean, causing greater rainfall and large thermal amplitudes. Cold mornings and nights and hot days promote a balanced maturation of the grapes, preserving their freshness and natural acidity. The gentle slopes and elevations of the landscape, as well as the clay-schist soils bring minerality, freshness and diversity to the wines of Herdade da Lisboa.

Vines
The approximately 100 hectares of vineyards at Herdade da Lisboa express the diversity of the property, through a compromise between typical Alentejo grape varieties and international varieties, with seven white and eight red grape varieties.

The vineyard also expresses the producer's deep respect for nature, integrating several sustainable practices, which allow optimizing the consumption of essential resources, such as water and energy. Natural grass, mechanical weed cutting to avoid the use of herbicides, close surveillance of pests, use of solar panels, its own weather station and probes for measuring soil humidity and temperature are some of the techniques and equipment used.

Oenology & wine cellar
Technology plays a central role in the Herdade da Lisboa winery, built from scratch in 2018. Of note are the temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and vats equipped with an innovative grape maceration system, as well as the modern cement vats. oval and round shape, which allow you to create wines of different styles.

In the cellar, there is also the capacity for cooling the grapes on arrival and for the individualized vinification of each variety. In the cellars, it is the integrated temperature and humidity control system that creates excellent conditions for the aging of wines, whether in barrel or bottle, and sparkling wines.

Olive grove, vegetable garden & gardens
With a history in the production of olive oil, it was the search for olive groves that brought the Cardoso Family to Herdade da Lisboa, where it extends over 200 hectares.

In addition to the vineyards and olive groves, the force of nature is expressed in several niches of diversity, occupying about 10 hectares with native trees, ornamental gardens, orchards and vegetable crops, in organic production, next to the Ribeira de Selminhos. There are also two dams that attract diverse fauna, such as hares, rabbits, ducks, partridges or eagles.
