After sourcing existing vineyards in a region of small growers, They have 22 hectares of vineyards in seven different plots in Vila Nova de Tazem and, Penalva do Castelo. Low intervention winemaking reflects the soil and location of each of their vineyards, leading to wines with character, elegant and distinct. Respect for the place and its biodiversity - soil, flora and fauna, people, and community - the preservation of natural and cultural resources and local development are the fundamental principles.
The Vineyards
Traditional Dão vineyards, between 18 and 50 years old, have been under conversion to organic viticulture since 2020. Present in two sub-regions, Serra da Estrela (Vila Nova de Tazem) and Castendo (Penalva do Castelo), the vines have different soils, altitudes, exposures and microclimates. Granite soils predominate at altitudes up to 620 meters.
After sourcing for existing vineyards, in a region of small growers, 19 hectares of vineyards aged between 18 and 50 years were gathered in seven different plots with traditional grape varieties from Dão, 80% of red grape varieties and less than 4 hectares with white grape varieties. These plots are in 3 distinct zones of the Dão because, in addition to being the South, North and Northeast limits of the DOP Dão, they are plots with different soils, altitudes, exposures and microclimates. In 2020, 3 hectares of new vineyards were also planted for white grapes.
Vila Nova de Tazem - Serra da Estrela
In Vila Nova de Tazem, the vineyards are installed on poor granite soils at altitudes between 480 and 550 meters, with cooler nights on the banks of the Serra da Estrela. This sub-region produces lighter and more delicate white and red wines. Jaen, Alfrocheiro and Encruzado varieties stand out. The harvest starts with white grapes, between the 5th and 15th of September, and the reds around the third week of the month.
Encoberta and Matela - Penalva do Castelo
In Encoberta, a vineyard planted in 1992 at 460 and 500 meters in more fertile, clay-granitic soils leads to shorter vegetative cycles for the four traditional red varieties of Dão: Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz. Compared to Serra da Estrela, it originates wines with aromatic exuberance. Red and black fruit presence and good acidity, particularly from Touriga Nacional and Alfrocheiro. In Matela, in the borders of Penalva do Castelo, the vineyard installed between 560 and 620 meters in 2002, on poor soils, a mix of granite and quartz, highlight the Jaen variety. This plot is the last to be harvested in the 1st week of October. Due to the suitability of this soil and climate for white grapes, the planting of 6 hectares of vineyards of Encruzado, Cerceal Branco, Bical and Gouveio began in 2020

The Wines
Textura Wines reflect a blend of traditional Dão grape varieties and a unique expression of different terroirs. Low intervention winemaking, led by Luís Seabra, reflects the terroir and seeks wines with character, elegant and distinct.
Color open to reddish pink. Delicate aromas of pomegranate and spring flowers. Spicy side very marked by white pepper. In the mouth the acidity is balanced and there is a touch of fine tannins, typical of the grape variety and the fermentation and aging in wood, which make it very gastronomic.
It is a very characteristic red wine from Dão, Penalva do Castelo, a bit fruitier, denser and more textured than Serra da Estrela red wines. Black fruits and spicy notes also in the palate, dry, some earthy character, and with a slightly tannic finish.
